Hey fellas!...so if you happened to check out my previous post (here) on the different body types for men, i'm guessing you should have an idea of what yours is by now...so this post is the first of two that will be talking about the best way to dress for your particular body type....i hope it helps...Enjoy! :D
THE INVERTED TRIANGLE:
When dressing this body type, our major aim is to attain balance between the lower and upper body
What to do:
- Wear trousers with straight or wide legs
- Make sure your shirts, t-shirts and jackets are the right fit
- Untuck your shirt; this will give you a more trapezoid look, while tucking in will emphasize your super V body shape.
What to avoid:
- Avoid going monochromatic (wearing just one color, top and bottom)
- Avoid anything with padding on the shoulders, or any form of embellishment on the shoulders so as not to make your shoulders look broader and your waist slimmer.
- Don't wear boxy looking shirts or jackets; all must be shaped according to your body outline; V!
Some celebrity inverted triangles are Sylvester Stallone, Enrique Iglesias and Arnold Schwarzenegger
THE TRAPEZOID:
This body shape actually doesn't need much work, it is one of the easiest to dress...you can wear almost anything you want (this is equivalent to hourglass for women, nice huh?)
What to do:
- Practically anything you want, no hassles at all in dressing for your body type because its already well proportioned...but always keep in mind, wear clothes that taper i.e. follow your body outline (just like the inverted triangle)
What to avoid:
- Boxy looking clothes...AGAIN i say: wear clothes that FIT right!...That is all! :)
Some celebrity trapezoids are Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe, Matthew McConaughey, Mathew Fox
THE RECTANGLE:
When dressing this body shape, the main aim is to create the illusion of a trapezoid shape by choosing styles to emphasize your shoulders.
What to do:
- Go for clothes that have padding or any embellishments or patterns on the shoulder, to make your shoulders appear broader
- Wear light colors on your top half, it will give the illusion of broader shoulders
- Go for skinny jeans (especially for skinny rectangles) it will help emphasize your top half in a good way.
- Get tops with pockets, they will help take away attention from your straight figure.
- Wear dark colored jeans or trousers, the contrast with a light top half will give you a nice shape.
What to avoid:
- Do not untuck your shirt! It will only emphasize your straight shape more, a tucked in shirt will emphasize the slightest V shape you might have, if you must untuck, ensure the shirt is not loosely fitted.
- Do not wear wide legged trousers, because it will only make your bottom half look wider.
- Avoid light colored trousers.
Some celebrity rectangles are Hugh Grant, Ahston Kutcher, Jared Leto and Jim Carrey
THE TRIANGLE:
In dressing a triangle, the main style aim is to create the appearance of broader and squarer shoulders...
What to do:
Think like a rectangle, but more...
- Wear jackets with padding, it will help in bringing attention to your shoulders and gives you the appearance of a more balanced shape.
- Wear lighter clothes on your top half and go for dark denim for your bottom half, because anything dark creates a slimming effect hence balancing out your body frame.
- Dress smart casual, pair your padded jackets with a pair of dark jeans and you'll be pleased with the outcome.
What to avoid:
- Baggy clothes
- Wearing tops with the shoulder seams wider than your shoulder, it will make your shoulders appear more sloping and narrow.
- Stay away from tight clothing...please! Don't mistake the "right fit" for the "tight fit"
Celebrities with the triangle shape: John Goodman
THE OVAL:
In dressing an oval, the main style aim is to create the appearance of a longer and slimmer torso.
What to do:
- Wear low rise trousers and jeans, these are jeans that sit on the hips instead of the waist, it helps give the illusion of a slimmer body by making your middle area appear smaller.
- Wear V necks, they give the appearance of a smaller neck and have a way of decreasing the "round-ish" appearance.
- Get a good fit, nothing too tight...and nothing baggy.
- Let your trousers be as long as possible, almost hitting the floor, to give the appearance of a taller and slimmer look
What to avoid:
- Avoid shirts with too much patterns, if u don't want to go plain, go for striped or plaid shirts
- Do not wear trousers that have short hems
Celebrities with this body shape: Jack black and Cedric the Entertainer
